Ayurveda and dosha
what is Ayurveda Dosha
Ayurveda is the holistic science of healing which was developed about 5000 – 6000 years ago in India. Literally, it means The Science Of Life (Ayur = Life, Veda = Science) and has age old secrets to perfect health and healing. Today, we explain how Ayurveda works at the most basic level. This will help you find out a little more about how your body and mind work and why things that go wrong, go wrong in the first place.
What are THREE DOSHA?
Ayurveda is largely based on the principle of the Three Doshas – Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Simply put, your Dosha is a blend of your physical, mental and emotional characteristics. Your health and your nature stem from your body constitution which is made up of these three Doshas. Each person has all
three Doshas but one or two of them dominate to create your unique constitution. Here is a brief outline of the three Doshas:
1 - What is Vata Dosha (The Elements Of Space And Air)
It controls the bodily functions associated with motion including blood circulation, breathing, blinking and heartbeat.
If the Vata Dosha predominates your body constitution, change and agility become constants in your life. Your frame is thin and light. You crave excitement and new experiences. Your conversations are lively and interesting.
IMBALANCE:
In case of an imbalance, the Vata individual is prone to weight loss, constipation and digestive problems. Emotionally, this causes worry, anxiousness and stress. In serious imbalances, it is known to cause depression and nervous disorders.
2 - What is Pitta Dosha – (The Elements Of Fire And Water)
The Pitta Dosha controls the metabolic systems including digestion, absorption, nutrition and body temperature.
It makes for a medium built individual with excellent digestion and a warm body temperature. They have oodles of energy, strong appetite and a strong sex drive. They are good speakers and decision makers with a high intellect.
IMBALANCE:
When this Dosha is out of balance, it causes a person to be short tempered and irritable. It can also cause ailments such as heartburn, indigestion and increased body heat.
3 - What is Kapha Dosha – (The Elements Of Water And Earth)
It controls growth and supplies water to all body parts. It moisturizes the skin and maintains the immune system
A Kapha dominated constitution leads to a strong build with soft, radiant skin, thick hair and pleasant eyes. They sleep soundly, have excellent digestion and display unmatched stamina. Emotionally, they are calm, loving, loyal and thoughtful.
IMBALANCE:
An imbalance will cause excessive weight gain, water retention and allergies. It can also cause ailments such as diabetes and asthma. It makes a person stubborn resistant to change.
What Causes An Imbalance?
Each Dosha goes out of balance for different reasons. Here’s a quick look at why this happens:
By avoiding the Dosha Imbalance causing activities, one can restore balance, maintain an optimal, healthy constitution and avoid most physical or mental ailments.
