Eagle Pose and its benefits

Eagle Pose and its benefits

Eagle pose (Garud asana) and its benefits

The eagle is a god in Indian mythology, and so is considered sacred and important. As with the tree pose, garudasana (pronounced gah-roo-DAH-sah-nah) improves balance and concentration as well as develops the ankles and removes stiffness in the shoulders.

Symbolically, the eagle represents the life force/prana. When you hold this pose, imagine that you are strong and fearless as an eagle.

Eagle pose - Garud asana

How to practice Eagle Pose

  1. Begin in tadasana, but with the knees slightly bent.
  2. Bend one leg over the other like you are crossing your thighs, then hook your ankle around the back of your other ankle. Try to stay balanced between your heel and toe.
  3. Bend your elbows and bring one arm under the other arm, connecting your palms in front of your face. Even though your body is twisting every which way, imagine your torso lifting and straightening. Breathe!
  4. Return to tadasana, and repeat on the other side. This pose is usually easier going one way than it is going the other way, but try it both ways and eventually you’ll balance.
  5. Getting Started: The eagle pose is a challenging pose. Don’t force that ankle around your standing leg, or you could injure your knee! If your ankle doesn’t hook around your standing leg easily, just place the top of your foot behind the ankle or calf of your standing leg. Eventually your flexibility will increase. Better to work within your own limits than to injure yourself.

Eagle pose Benefits

  • The standing Eagle Pose strengthens your calves, ankles, thighs, and hips.
  • Builds your balance and core strength.
  • It helps you develop better concentration.
  • Some people find it beneficial for a low backache or sciatica.
  • Loosens the joints of the arms, hips and legs.

How to Prepare for a Yoga Teacher Training Course

How to Prepare for a Yoga Teacher Training Course

How to prepare for a Yoga Teacher Training Course

Have you ever wondered that I must pack my bags, take a leap of faith and sign up for a 200 Hour Yoga TTC in India. Although this decision cannot be made overnight a lot of research about which school to enroll for. This decision can be very similar to choosing a college course but with an ounce of faith and trusting our inner voice we can make it happen.

100 hour yoga ttc goa students

So here are a few pointers to keep in mind before we enroll that will help us prepare for the Yoga Teacher Training program:

Be open-minded :

The first step to keep in mind is to be very open minded and not have any fixations when it comes to what I will be learning at the Yoga TTC, we mist understand that there are several lineages and traditions of yoga styles. Each lineage has its own peculiar style and they are slightly different from each other, nevertheless one must remember to just surrender and learn and dive into in this beautiful experience with an open-mind.

Read more think less:

We cannot stress enough the importance of reading and how much there is to learn. The subject of yoga is as vast as the ocean and even one lifetime is not enough to learn about this wondrous philosophy. There are  several materials and books one can refer to apart from books there are many blogs, videos, articles that one can read specially f you’re an absolute beginner.

Practice and all is coming:

No matter where you are at in your practice whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced practitioner if you have decided to enroll for a Yoga  TTC you must begin to dedicate a small amount of time on the mat.

When we practice daily it helps us become more aware of our body and helps us understand the dynamics and body mechanics better. The only way to keep moving forward in our yoga journey is to practice daily.

Don’t stress:

Traveling to another country can sound stressful and the thought may create some anxiety. But one must realize that if we do not step out of our comfort zone there will be no growth. All the growth that we are meant to go through happens outside our comfort zone.

So with a very positive mindset we must embark on this journey to accept whatever is ready to unfold.

Have faith:

Don’t let the analytical mind create boundaries and obstacles that will only create barriers and make you question the entire process.

Learn to let go and  trust the divine and let the journey happen.

At Shivoham Yoga School the 200 Hour Yoga TTC  is designed and curated keeping in mind the different aspects and topics of Yoga like Meditation, philosophy, Mantra chanting, Anatomy, Pranayama.
